Essas linhagens j\u00e1 est\u00e3o dispon\u00edveis para melhoramento gen\u00e9tico. O fungo causa a podrid\u00e3o radicular por Fusarium, uma doen\u00e7a que afeta ervilhas em todo o mundo.<\/p>\n<p>Em 1994, o geneticista Fred Muehlbauer, do ARS (Servi\u00e7o de Pesquisa Agr\u00edcola do Departamento de Agricultura dos EUA), que atuou como l\u00edder de pesquisa na Unidade de Pesquisa em Gen\u00e9tica e Fisiologia de Leguminosas de Gr\u00e3os do ARS em Pullman, Washington, EUA, at\u00e9 2006, cruzou duas linhagens de germoplasma \u2014 X94P275 e 90-2131 \u2014 com a variedade &quot;Dark Skin Perfection&quot;, pr\u00f3pria para enlatamento e congelamento. As plantas descendentes dessa linhagem deram origem a tr\u00eas linhagens de germoplasma que foram selecionadas e propagadas para lan\u00e7amento em 2008.<\/p>\n<p>As novas linhagens demonstraram, ao longo de tr\u00eas anos de ensaios de campo, oferecer alguns dos mais altos n\u00edveis de resist\u00eancia \u00e0 podrid\u00e3o radicular por Fusarium j\u00e1 observados.
