Essa varia\u00e7\u00e3o se deve principalmente a uma redu\u00e7\u00e3o geral na \u00e1rea total cultivada, associada aos baixos pre\u00e7os das commodities agr\u00edcolas em 2015. O ISAAA prev\u00ea que a \u00e1rea total cultivada aumentar\u00e1 com a melhora dos pre\u00e7os das culturas. Por exemplo, o Canad\u00e1 projetou que a \u00e1rea plantada com canola em 2016 retornar\u00e1 ao n\u00edvel mais alto de 2014. Outros fatores que afetaram a \u00e1rea plantada com biotecnologia em 2015 incluem a seca devastadora na \u00c1frica do Sul, que levou a uma redu\u00e7\u00e3o massiva de 23% de 700.000 hectares em planta\u00e7\u00f5es planejadas em 2015. A seca no leste e sul da \u00c1frica em 2015\/2016 colocou de 15 a 20 milh\u00f5es de pessoas pobres em risco de inseguran\u00e7a alimentar e compeliu a \u00c1frica do Sul, geralmente uma exportadora de milho, a depender de importa\u00e7\u00f5es de milho.<\/p>\n<p>O relat\u00f3rio, \u201c20\u00ba anivers\u00e1rio da comercializa\u00e7\u00e3o global de culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas (1996-2015) e destaques das culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas em 2015\u201d, apresentou o aumento global na \u00e1rea cultivada com culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas de 1,7 milh\u00e3o de hectares em 1996 para 179,7 milh\u00f5es de hectares em 2015. Esse aumento de 100 vezes em apenas 20 anos torna a biotecnologia a tecnologia agr\u00edcola mais rapidamente adotada nos \u00faltimos tempos, refletindo a satisfa\u00e7\u00e3o dos agricultores com as culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas.<\/p>\n<p>Desde 1996, 2 bilh\u00f5es de hectares de terras ar\u00e1veis \u2013 uma \u00e1rea enorme, mais que o dobro da massa terrestre da China ou dos Estados Unidos \u2013 foram plantados com culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas. Al\u00e9m disso, estima-se que agricultores em at\u00e9 28 pa\u00edses tenham colhido mais de $150 bilh\u00f5es em benef\u00edcios com culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas desde 1996. Em 2015, agricultores latino-americanos, asi\u00e1ticos e africanos cultivaram culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas em 54% da \u00e1rea global de cultivo biotecnol\u00f3gico (97,1 milh\u00f5es de hectares de 179,7 milh\u00f5es de hectares biotecnol\u00f3gicos) e, dos 28 pa\u00edses que plantaram culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas, 20 eram na\u00e7\u00f5es em desenvolvimento. Anualmente, at\u00e9 18 milh\u00f5es de agricultores, 90% dos quais eram pequenos produtores rurais com poucos recursos em pa\u00edses em desenvolvimento, se beneficiaram do plantio de culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas entre 1996 e 2015.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA China \u00e9 apenas um exemplo dos benef\u00edcios da biotecnologia para agricultores em pa\u00edses em desenvolvimento. Entre 1997 e 2014, as variedades de algod\u00e3o biotecnol\u00f3gicas trouxeram um valor estimado de $17,5 bilh\u00f5es em benef\u00edcios aos produtores de algod\u00e3o chineses, e eles faturaram $1,3 bilh\u00e3o somente em 2014\u201d, explicou o coordenador global do ISAAA, Randy Hautea.<\/p>\n<p>Tamb\u00e9m em 2015, a \u00cdndia tornou-se o maior produtor mundial de algod\u00e3o, com grande parte de seu crescimento atribu\u00eddo ao algod\u00e3o Bt biotecnol\u00f3gico. A \u00cdndia \u00e9 o maior pa\u00eds produtor mundial de algod\u00e3o biotecnol\u00f3gico, com 11,6 milh\u00f5es de hectares plantados em 2015 por 7,7 milh\u00f5es de pequenos agricultores. Em 2014 e 2015, impressionantes 95% da safra de algod\u00e3o da \u00cdndia foi plantada com sementes biotecnol\u00f3gicas; a ado\u00e7\u00e3o da China em 2015 foi de 96%.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOs agricultores, tradicionalmente avessos a riscos, reconhecem o valor das culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas, que oferecem benef\u00edcios tanto para agricultores quanto para consumidores, incluindo toler\u00e2ncia \u00e0 seca, resist\u00eancia a insetos e doen\u00e7as, toler\u00e2ncia a herbicidas e aumento da nutri\u00e7\u00e3o e da qualidade dos alimentos\u201d, acrescentou Hautea. \u201cAl\u00e9m disso, as culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas contribuem para sistemas de produ\u00e7\u00e3o agr\u00edcola mais sustent\u00e1veis, que abordam as preocupa\u00e7\u00f5es com as mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas e a seguran\u00e7a alimentar global.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Destaques adicionais do relat\u00f3rio de 2015 do ISAAA incluem:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Novas culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas foram aprovadas e\/ou comercializadas em v\u00e1rios pa\u00edses, incluindo Estados Unidos, Brasil, Argentina, Canad\u00e1 e Mianmar.<br \/>\n\u2022 Os Estados Unidos testemunharam uma s\u00e9rie de novidades, incluindo a comercializa\u00e7\u00e3o de novos produtos, como:<br \/>\nBatatas Innate\u2122 Gera\u00e7\u00e3o 1, com n\u00edveis mais baixos de acrilamida, um potencial cancer\u00edgeno, e resist\u00eancia a hematomas. Vale ressaltar que a batata \u00e9 a quarta cultura alimentar mais importante do mundo.<br \/>\nMa\u00e7\u00e3s Arctic\u00ae que n\u00e3o escurecem quando fatiadas.<br \/>\no A primeira cultura n\u00e3o transg\u00eanica com genoma editado a ser comercializada globalmente, a SU Canola\u2122, foi plantada nos Estados Unidos.<br \/>\no A primeira aprova\u00e7\u00e3o de um produto alimentar animal geneticamente modificado, o salm\u00e3o geneticamente modificado, para consumo humano.<br \/>\n\u2022 Culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas com caracter\u00edsticas m\u00faltiplas, frequentemente chamadas de \u201ccaracter\u00edsticas acumuladas\u201d, foram plantadas em 58,5 milh\u00f5es de hectares, representando 33% de todos os hectares biotecnol\u00f3gicos plantados e um aumento de 14% em rela\u00e7\u00e3o ao ano anterior.<br \/>\n\u2022 O Vietn\u00e3 plantou um milho biotecnol\u00f3gico Bt de caracter\u00edsticas combinadas e tolerante a herbicidas como sua primeira cultura biotecnol\u00f3gica.<br \/>\n\u2022 O milho Biotech DroughtGard\u2122, plantado pela primeira vez nos Estados Unidos em 2013, aumentou 15 vezes, de 50.000 hectares em 2013 para 810.000 hectares, refletindo a alta aceita\u00e7\u00e3o dos agricultores.<br \/>\n\u2022 O Sud\u00e3o aumentou a \u00e1rea plantada com algod\u00e3o Bt em 30%, para 120.000 hectares, enquanto v\u00e1rios fatores impediram uma \u00e1rea maior em Burkina Faso.<br \/>\n\u2022 Oito pa\u00edses africanos testaram em campo culturas africanas priorit\u00e1rias em prol dos pobres, o pen\u00faltimo passo antes da aprova\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n<p>Olhando para o futuro da biotecnologia na agricultura, o ISAAA identificou tr\u00eas oportunidades principais para concretizar o crescimento cont\u00ednuo na ado\u00e7\u00e3o de culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas, que s\u00e3o as seguintes:<br \/>\n\u2022 As altas taxas de ado\u00e7\u00e3o (90% a 100%) nos principais mercados de biotecnologia atuais deixam pouco espa\u00e7o para expans\u00e3o. Quando combinada com outros avan\u00e7os na ci\u00eancia agr\u00edcola, a CRISPR pode aumentar a produtividade agr\u00edcola em um modo de &quot;intensifica\u00e7\u00e3o sustent\u00e1vel&quot; nos 1,5
