Dra. Nancy Reichert<\/p><\/div>\n

Em uma elei\u00e7\u00e3o recente no Conselho de Ci\u00eancia e Tecnologia Agr\u00edcola (CAST), a Dra. Nancy Reichert foi escolhida como Presidente Eleita para 2016-2017. Ela assumir\u00e1 oficialmente suas responsabilidades ao final da Reuni\u00e3o do Conselho de Outono do CAST, em outubro. Em 2016-2017, ela se tornar\u00e1 a 45\u00aa Presidente do CAST, uma honra e responsabilidade singulares que remontam a 1972, quando Charles A. Black e Norman Borlaug, juntamente com outros cientistas comprometidos, lideraram o movimento para "levar informa\u00e7\u00f5es baseadas na ci\u00eancia para a formula\u00e7\u00e3o de pol\u00edticas e para o p\u00fablico".<\/p>\n

Nancy Reichert formou-se em bacteriologia pela Universidade de Wisconsin-Madison. Ela se apaixonou pela cultura de tecidos vegetais no in\u00edcio de sua carreira, enquanto trabalhava na gera\u00e7\u00e3o de plantas transg\u00eanicas. Isso a levou \u00e0 p\u00f3s-gradua\u00e7\u00e3o na Universidade Estadual do Novo M\u00e9xico, onde trabalhou no novo Laborat\u00f3rio de Engenharia Gen\u00e9tica de Plantas e obteve um doutorado em biologia molecular. Nancy desempenha um papel ativo na Sociedade de Biologia In Vitro (SIVB) e ocupou diversos cargos eletivos desde 2002. Atualmente, ela atua no Conselho Diretor e preside o Comit\u00ea de Pol\u00edticas P\u00fablicas, cargo que ocupa h\u00e1 quatro anos. Nancy foi nomeada membro da SIVB em 2006 e recebeu dois Pr\u00eamios de Servi\u00e7os Distintos da SIVB.<\/p>\n

Nancy representa o SIVB no Conselho de Representantes do CAST desde 2013 e, como membro do Grupo de Trabalho de Ci\u00eancia e Seguran\u00e7a Alimentar, teve recentemente aprovada uma proposta de documento de discuss\u00e3o, da qual \u00e9 representante e defensora. Ela tamb\u00e9m \u00e9 membro ativo do Comit\u00ea do Plano Estrat\u00e9gico 2016-2020.<\/p>\n

Em sua declara\u00e7\u00e3o de vis\u00e3o, a Dra. Reichert enfatizou a import\u00e2ncia do papel do CAST para alcan\u00e7ar um p\u00fablico amplo, al\u00e9m daqueles prontos para aceitar \u2013 e interpretar adequadamente \u2013 as informa\u00e7\u00f5es transmitidas.
