Trabalhando juntas e construindo suas respectivas expertises em inova\u00e7\u00e3o, as duas partes planejam aumentar a sustentabilidade agr\u00edcola e ajudar a enfrentar os desafios de produzir alimentos suficientes para uma popula\u00e7\u00e3o mundial crescente.<\/p>\n<p>O objetivo da colabora\u00e7\u00e3o de pesquisa \u00e9 entender melhor os fatores gen\u00e9ticos que determinam o rendimento de gr\u00e3os no trigo. A colabora\u00e7\u00e3o fornecer\u00e1 uma oportunidade para os membros do CAAS obterem mais insights sobre a pesquisa na Bayer por meio de est\u00e1gios de curto prazo e visitas regulares aos cientistas que trabalham no Bayer Innovation Center em Ghent, B\u00e9lgica.<\/p>\n<p>A Bayer j\u00e1 tem uma parceria bem estabelecida e pr\u00f3xima com a CAAS em v\u00e1rias \u00e1reas de pesquisa agr\u00edcola. Durante uma reuni\u00e3o no ano passado, o Dr. Adrian Percy, Chefe de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento na Divis\u00e3o de Ci\u00eancia de Cultivos da Bayer, e o Dr. Kongming Wu, Vice-Presidente da CAAS, estenderam o Memorando de Entendimento existente entre as duas partes. O projeto de pesquisa em trigo faz parte dessa estrutura e fortalecer\u00e1 ainda mais o relacionamento.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA produtividade do trigo est\u00e1 aumentando atualmente a uma taxa de menos de um por cento ao ano, enquanto a demanda por trigo est\u00e1 crescendo duas vezes mais r\u00e1pido, uma situa\u00e7\u00e3o que est\u00e1 sendo exacerbada pelas mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas. Precisamos aumentar os rendimentos usando sementes melhoradas, e a colabora\u00e7\u00e3o com a CAAS ajudar\u00e1 ambas as partes a desenvolv\u00ea-las\u201d, disse Catherine Feuillet, Chefe Global de Pesquisa de Tra\u00e7os na Divis\u00e3o de Ci\u00eancia de Cultivos.<\/p>\n<p>O professor Chun-Ming Liu, diretor geral do Institute of Crop Sciences, CAAS, acrescentou: \u201cA gen\u00f4mica de culturas fornece uma boa oportunidade para dissecar geneticamente o rendimento, a caracter\u00edstica mais importante e complexa na cria\u00e7\u00e3o. Entramos pela porta, mas h\u00e1 um longo caminho a percorrer antes de entendermos completamente os genes subjacentes ao rendimento e sua rede de intera\u00e7\u00e3o. Portanto, uma colabora\u00e7\u00e3o global nesta \u00e1rea \u00e9 importante e necess\u00e1ria. O programa de pesquisa conjunta entre o CAAS e a Bayer certamente ser\u00e1 um passo s\u00f3lido \u00e0 frente neste campo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Os principais fatos sobre o trigo:<br \/>\nCerca de 25 por cento das terras ar\u00e1veis do mundo s\u00e3o usadas para cultivar trigo. Isso faz do trigo o cereal com a maior quantidade de terra usada para cultivo e um dos alimentos b\u00e1sicos mais importantes do mundo. Com um volume de produ\u00e7\u00e3o que excede 700 milh\u00f5es de toneladas anualmente, o trigo \u00e9 a segunda cultura de cereal mais amplamente cultivada depois do milho.
