Huanglongbing, uma doen\u00e7a bacteriana fatal dos c\u00edtricos, tamb\u00e9m conhecida como greening c\u00edtrico, j\u00e1 causou uma perda estimada de $15 bilh\u00f5es em receita para a ind\u00fastria. Os c\u00edtricos s\u00e3o a fruta mais consumida nos EUA, com uma ind\u00fastria anual estimada de $9 bilh\u00f5es. Esses n\u00fameros est\u00e3o mudando rapidamente com o aumento das perdas e a diminui\u00e7\u00e3o do tamanho da ind\u00fastria a cada ano. De acordo com um estudo financiado pelo USDA, foi observado que a Fl\u00f3rida, que produz 66% do total de c\u00edtricos dos EUA, viu uma redu\u00e7\u00e3o de quase 60% na produ\u00e7\u00e3o de c\u00edtricos nos \u00faltimos 15 anos. O Brasil e a China, que produzem quase o dobro dos Estados Unidos, tamb\u00e9m est\u00e3o lutando contra o greening c\u00edtrico.<\/p>\n<p>Considerando esse problema gigantesco de doen\u00e7as c\u00edtricas, o USDA est\u00e1 buscando ativamente novas estrat\u00e9gias que possam evitar grandes perdas na agricultura. Pesquisadores do USDA agora est\u00e3o usando a tecnologia FANA de silenciamento de RNA de \u00faltima gera\u00e7\u00e3o da AUM para combater as bact\u00e9rias patog\u00eanicas das plantas <em>Candidato <\/em>Liberibacter e pragas c\u00edtricas como gorgulho da raiz c\u00edtrica e psil\u00eddeo asi\u00e1tico dos c\u00edtricos. Resultados preliminares mostraram um aumento na mortalidade de insetos e redu\u00e7\u00e3o de bact\u00e9rias dentro de \u00e1rvores c\u00edtricas. Esta \u00e9 a primeira evid\u00eancia de entrega bem-sucedida de Oligonucleot\u00eddeos Antisense FANA (ASOs FANA) em plantas por meio de pulveriza\u00e7\u00f5es foliares, absor\u00e7\u00e3o de ra\u00edzes e inje\u00e7\u00f5es no tronco da \u00e1rvore; e fornece uma nova abordagem para o manejo de pragas agr\u00edcolas e pat\u00f3genos de plantas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDada a resist\u00eancia dos pesticidas convencionais, h\u00e1 uma necessidade cada vez maior de novas tecnologias inovadoras para proteger as plantas. Estamos animados em compartilhar que, neste estudo colaborativo com o USDA Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS), nossa abordagem de silenciamento de RNA FANA de \u00faltima gera\u00e7\u00e3o mostrou dados muito promissores no gerenciamento de pragas e pat\u00f3genos agr\u00edcolas devido \u00e0 sua capacidade de matar ou manipular bact\u00e9rias, insetos ou v\u00edrus. Esperamos que nossos esfor\u00e7os combinados com o USDA possam em breve ajudar a economizar bilh\u00f5es de d\u00f3lares da ind\u00fastria c\u00edtrica\u201d, afirmou Veenu Aishwarya, fundador e CEO da AUM LifeTech. \u201c\u00c9 importante ressaltar que, embora a tecnologia FANA da AUM funcione no n\u00edvel gen\u00e9tico, ela n\u00e3o cria organismos geneticamente modificados. Este \u00e9 um aspecto muito ben\u00e9fico na agricultura, especialmente da perspectiva de registro da EPA, e pode potencialmente ajudar em um tempo de aprova\u00e7\u00e3o mais r\u00e1pido\u201d, acrescentou.<\/p>\n<p>A tecnologia antisense FANA da AUM LifeTech fornece uma alternativa superior de silenciamento de RNA que pode fornecer persist\u00eancia mais longa para aplica\u00e7\u00f5es t\u00f3picas em programas de prote\u00e7\u00e3o de plantas n\u00e3o transg\u00eanicas.
