A presen\u00e7a inesperada dos Coletes Amarelos (Coletes amarelos<\/em>) manifestantes na recente F\u00f3rum Internacional de Rob\u00f3tica Agr\u00edcola<\/a> (FIRA) em Toulouse, Fran\u00e7a, traz ecos inquietantes de um cap\u00edtulo anterior na hist\u00f3ria da tecnologia agr\u00edcola: a oposi\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0 introdu\u00e7\u00e3o de culturas geneticamente modificadas na d\u00e9cada de 1990.<\/p>\n

De fato, muitos pa\u00edses aprovaram o uso de OGM \u2014 principalmente EUA, Canad\u00e1, Austr\u00e1lia, Brasil e \u00cdndia.<\/p>\n

Mas n\u00e3o na maior parte da Europa. Embora grande parte do in\u00edcio da biotecnologia tenha ocorrido em universidades, institutos e empresas de P&D europeias, a oposi\u00e7\u00e3o do consumidor aos OGMs em toda a Uni\u00e3o Europeia tem permanentemente enfraquecido o plantio de culturas biotecnol\u00f3gicas l\u00e1. Hoje, apenas Espanha<\/a> \u00e9 registrado como um ponto fraco entre os pa\u00edses com hectares plantados com culturas geneticamente modificadas.<\/p>\n
