O governo e o Banco Africano de Desenvolvimento (AfDB) financiar\u00e3o o Projeto de Infraestrutura Rural Regional Natural de Bugesera com US$23 milh\u00f5es. O projeto colocar\u00e1 em pr\u00e1tica esquemas de irriga\u00e7\u00e3o e tamb\u00e9m facilitar\u00e1 a compra de fertilizantes para impulsionar a produ\u00e7\u00e3o agr\u00edcola nesta regi\u00e3o que tem sido prejudicada por secas prolongadas h\u00e1 anos.<\/p>\n

O projeto dever\u00e1 come\u00e7ar no in\u00edcio do pr\u00f3ximo ano (2010) e ser\u00e1 implementado ao longo de um per\u00edodo de seis anos.<\/p>\n

\u201cO crescimento econ\u00f4mico sustentado e a redu\u00e7\u00e3o da pobreza dependem do investimento cont\u00ednuo na agricultura. Ela desempenha um papel importante no crescimento, que \u00e9 necess\u00e1rio para reduzir a pobreza e garantir a seguran\u00e7a alimentar\u201d, disse o Ministro das Finan\u00e7as James Musoni na cerim\u00f4nia de assinatura realizada no Minist\u00e9rio das Finan\u00e7as, de acordo com allafrica.com<\/a>.
Diko Mukete, representante residente do AfDB, observou que a regi\u00e3o de Bugesera vem sofrendo de inseguran\u00e7a alimentar h\u00e1 muitos anos devido ao r\u00e1pido crescimento populacional e ao decl\u00ednio da produ\u00e7\u00e3o agr\u00edcola. Mukete atribuiu esse decl\u00ednio \u00e0 eros\u00e3o do solo, ao assoreamento de lagos e \u00e0s mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas, em particular \u00e0s chuvas irregulares e insuficientes nos \u00faltimos anos.<\/p>\n

Al\u00e9m da irriga\u00e7\u00e3o e outras iniciativas de produ\u00e7\u00e3o agr\u00edcola, o projeto tamb\u00e9m criar\u00e1 instala\u00e7\u00f5es adequadas de armazenamento de alimentos, reabilitar\u00e1 estradas rurais necess\u00e1rias para a distribui\u00e7\u00e3o de alimentos, facilitar\u00e1 a prote\u00e7\u00e3o de lagos e p\u00e2ntanos e apoiar\u00e1 o desenvolvimento de cooperativas de agricultores.
O Burundi tamb\u00e9m se beneficiar\u00e1 de quase o mesmo montante de financiamento do subs\u00eddio total de $46 milh\u00f5es.<\/p>\n
