Oito anos depois, o pa\u00eds est\u00e1 \u00e0 beira de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agribusinessglobal.com\/pt\/agrichemicals\/gmo-ban-in-kenya-will-soon-be-lifted\/\">levantando essa proibi\u00e7\u00e3o<\/a> ap\u00f3s a constata\u00e7\u00e3o de que a tecnologia pode ajudar a combater a inseguran\u00e7a alimentar e ancorar a retomada do setor manufatureiro. <em>Agroneg\u00f3cio Global<\/em> a revista falou com Eric Bureau, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bayer.com\/en\/east-africa.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bayer \u00c1frica Oriental<\/a> Diretor Executivo e Chefe de Pa\u00eds na \u00c1frica Oriental, sobre este desenvolvimento:<\/p>\n<p><strong>P. O debate \u00e9 informado por um forte interesse cient\u00edfico e comercial por causa dos benef\u00edcios que as culturas GM podem trazer aos agricultores, consumidores e \u00e0 economia em geral. No entanto, o Qu\u00eania tem que tomar a decis\u00e3o pol\u00edtica sobre se deve ou n\u00e3o suspender a proibi\u00e7\u00e3o porque hoje o desenvolvimento de culturas GM n\u00e3o depende dos cientistas, mas dos reguladores que est\u00e3o recebendo orienta\u00e7\u00e3o dos pol\u00edticos. O que \u00e9 necess\u00e1rio neste momento no Qu\u00eania para que essas culturas sejam aprovadas e cultivadas comercialmente \u00e9 uma decis\u00e3o pol\u00edtica.<\/p>\n<p><strong>P. Voc\u00ea acha que o Qu\u00eania est\u00e1 pronto para adotar culturas geneticamente modificadas?<\/strong><br \/>\nA tecnologia GM \u00e9 proibida para cultivo comercial, mas h\u00e1 testes nacionais de desempenho sendo realizados em v\u00e1rias institui\u00e7\u00f5es, como a Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization para algod\u00e3o e milho. Isso mostra que a tecnologia \u00e9 necess\u00e1ria na agricultura de hoje, e isso \u00e9 algo que o Qu\u00eania aprecia. Qu\u00e3o seguras s\u00e3o as culturas geneticamente modificadas?<\/strong><br \/>\nAs culturas GM s\u00e3o seguras para as pessoas e at\u00e9 mesmo para os animais quando usadas como ra\u00e7\u00e3o. Elas foram aprovadas pelos principais \u00f3rg\u00e3os reguladores nos EUA, \u00c1frica do Sul, Am\u00e9rica do Sul, Europa e Austr\u00e1lia. Nos \u00faltimos 30 anos, n\u00e3o houve relatos, incidentes ou casos de reivindica\u00e7\u00f5es por causa de qualquer tipo de toxicidade das culturas GM. Quanto ao Qu\u00eania, a promulga\u00e7\u00e3o de leis e o estabelecimento de uma autoridade reguladora devem oferecer garantias de que o governo est\u00e1 determinado a regular de forma eficaz e eficiente a tecnologia GM.<\/p>\n<p><strong>P. Quais benef\u00edcios os agricultores quenianos podem esperar dos cultivos transg\u00eanicos?<\/strong><br \/>\nOs agricultores em todo o mundo s\u00e3o empreendedores e devem decidir o que querem cultivar com base nos benef\u00edcios que veem na colheita e na sua renda. As culturas GM est\u00e3o crescendo a cada ano porque os agricultores est\u00e3o vendo os benef\u00edcios. Eles veem os impactos, a efic\u00e1cia e os n\u00edveis de renda. Como a Bayer East Africa espera se beneficiar se a proibi\u00e7\u00e3o for suspensa?<\/strong><br \/>\nInvestimos muito no Qu\u00eania, produzindo sementes h\u00edbridas convencionais. Investimos em fazendas de sementes onde estamos produzindo sementes. Se a proibi\u00e7\u00e3o for suspensa, intensificaremos ainda mais nossas capacidades de produ\u00e7\u00e3o no pa\u00eds para levar a tecnologia aos agricultores, porque o neg\u00f3cio de sementes requer produ\u00e7\u00e3o local. Atualmente, estamos na terceira posi\u00e7\u00e3o no mercado de sementes, e nosso objetivo \u00e9 produzir 100% das sementes que estamos vendendo localmente.<\/p>\n<p><strong>P. Como voc\u00ea avalia o ritmo no qual a \u00c1frica est\u00e1 caminhando em dire\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0 ado\u00e7\u00e3o de OGM?<\/strong><br \/>\nA \u00c1frica est\u00e1 se movendo muito lentamente. Veja o Qu\u00eania, onde os primeiros testes foram feitos h\u00e1 mais de 15 anos. Houve muitos atrasos, em grande parte devido ao debate pol\u00edtico. O Qu\u00eania perdeu muito tempo, apesar dos testes serem realizados e da tecnologia ter se mostrado eficaz. A ado\u00e7\u00e3o est\u00e1 se movendo lentamente em um pa\u00eds onde 60% de pequenos agricultores est\u00e3o usando sementes h\u00edbridas e certificadas.
