O objetivo \u00e9 desenvolver plantas de soja que sejam mais dur\u00e1veis e resistentes \u00e0 ferrugem asi\u00e1tica da soja.<\/p>\n<p>Ferrugem asi\u00e1tica da soja (<em>Phakopsora pachyrhizi<\/em>) \u00e9 um desafio cr\u00edtico para os produtores. Se n\u00e3o for manejada adequadamente com aplica\u00e7\u00f5es frequentes de fungicidas, a doen\u00e7a pode causar perdas de rendimento de at\u00e9 80%. O pat\u00f3geno causa perdas econ\u00f4micas e de rendimento extensas na Am\u00e9rica Latina, onde <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.fas.usda.gov\/psdonline\/reporthandler.ashx?reportId=706&amp;templateId=8&amp;format=html&amp;fileName=Table%2007:%20Soybeans:%20World%20Supply%20and%20Distribution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">191 milh\u00f5es de toneladas m\u00e9tricas<\/a> foram produzidos na safra 2020-2021. Somente no Brasil, a Ferrugem Asi\u00e1tica da Soja <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4894884\/#:~:text=The%20biotrophic%20basidiomycete%20threatens%20soybean,et%20al.%2C%202014).\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">causou perdas de colheitas de mais de US$ 10 bilh\u00f5es<\/a> desde seu primeiro surto end\u00eamico em 2001.<\/p>\n<p>Ao trabalhar com cientistas de plantas l\u00edderes mundiais, a 2Blades Foundation identifica novas fontes de resist\u00eancia a doen\u00e7as na natureza contra as principais amea\u00e7as de doen\u00e7as n\u00e3o gerenciadas de grandes culturas. A resist\u00eancia gen\u00e9tica permite que as culturas detectem a presen\u00e7a de novos pat\u00f3genos, ativem o sistema imunol\u00f3gico da planta e protejam os rendimentos.<\/p>\n<p>Em 2017, a 2Blades e a Monsanto \u2014 desde <a href=\"https:\/\/www.croplife.com\/industry-news\/bayer-to-ditch-monsanto-name-after-mega-merger\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">adquirida pela Bayer<\/a> \u2014 iniciou um projeto sobre receptores de superf\u00edcie celular para combater doen\u00e7as que reduzem significativamente a produtividade. A plataforma desenvolvida naquele programa agora ser\u00e1 usada para combater a ferrugem asi\u00e1tica da soja em paralelo com uma colabora\u00e7\u00e3o sobre ferrugem da soja entre as duas organiza\u00e7\u00f5es iniciada em 2018. A abordagem conjunta fornecer\u00e1 v\u00e1rios modos de a\u00e7\u00e3o contra um pat\u00f3geno complexo, aumentando a robustez e a durabilidade dessas solu\u00e7\u00f5es independentes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA demanda global por soja continua a aumentar \u2014 mas as doen\u00e7as s\u00e3o implac\u00e1veis\u201d, disse Jeremy Williams, vice-presidente s\u00eanior e chefe de
