Como era pitoresco em 2019 se preocupar com canudos de pl\u00e1stico e sacolas pl\u00e1sticas de compras. Agora, em 2021, as ruas est\u00e3o cheias de tudo de uso \u00fanico. Estou me perguntando se agora h\u00e1 uma grande mancha de m\u00e1scaras faciais descart\u00e1veis flutuando em algum lugar no Pac\u00edfico Sul.<\/p>\n<p>N\u00e3o estou aqui para revidar pl\u00e1sticos ou produtos descart\u00e1veis de seguran\u00e7a, em vez disso, meu foco vem do impasse que temos com o desperd\u00edcio geral de alimentos no mundo. Em algumas \u00e1reas do mundo, temos muita comida que vai para o lixo e, em outras \u00e1reas do mundo, n\u00e3o h\u00e1 comida suficiente. Que din\u00e2mica triste em uma economia alimentar global integrada!<\/p>\n<p>J\u00e1 viajei para dezenas de pa\u00edses e at\u00e9 morei no exterior. Posso declarar com orgulho que, de todas as coisas incr\u00edveis que os bons e velhos EUA t\u00eam a oferecer, a abund\u00e2ncia de produ\u00e7\u00e3o de alimentos est\u00e1 facilmente entre as cinco primeiras. Quem precisa de 15 molhos de churrasco diferentes, 20 sabores de molhos de homus, 30 variedades de recheios de Oreos e Starbucks do outro lado da rua de outro Starbucks?<\/p>\n<p>Americanos, claro! Mas com nossas abundantes ofertas de alimentos vem uma enorme quantidade de desperd\u00edcio de alimentos e produ\u00e7\u00e3o de energia ao longo de toda a cadeia de valor alimentar. Para manter minha contagem de palavras no m\u00ednimo, eu queria focar em abordagens sustent\u00e1veis para a quest\u00e3o do desperd\u00edcio de alimentos no n\u00edvel da fazenda aqui nos EUA.<\/p>\n<p>O desperd\u00edcio de alimentos \u00e9 inevit\u00e1vel na maioria dos sistemas agr\u00edcolas. Durante um ciclo t\u00edpico de cultivo de safra, o agricultor enfrentar\u00e1 uma s\u00e9rie de variabilidades no clima, ervas daninhas, insetos, doen\u00e7as e mudan\u00e7as de mercado. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fao.org\/home\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Organiza\u00e7\u00e3o das Na\u00e7\u00f5es Unidas para a Alimenta\u00e7\u00e3o e a Agricultura<\/a> das Na\u00e7\u00f5es Unidas estima que \u201cas plantas constituem cerca de 80% dos alimentos que consumimos; enquanto cerca de 40% das culturas alimentares s\u00e3o perdidas por pragas agr\u00edcolas\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Das culturas que chegam ao dia da colheita, outros 40% em m\u00e9dia de culturas comercializ\u00e1veis s\u00e3o deixados a apodrecer de acordo com o <a href=\"https:\/\/cefs.ncsu.edu\/introducing-farm-level-loss-into-the-food-waste-discussion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">O Centro de Sistemas Agr\u00edcolas Ambientais (CEFS) da Universidade Estadual da Carolina do Norte<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cH\u00e1 uma s\u00e9rie de raz\u00f5es pelas quais uma cultura perfeitamente segura e nutritiva pode ser deixada no campo\u201d, <a href=\"https:\/\/cefs.ncsu.edu\/introducing-farm-level-loss-into-the-food-waste-discussion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">escreva para Nancy Creamer e Lisa Johnson em nome do CEFS<\/a>. \u201cUma combina\u00e7\u00e3o de raz\u00f5es \u00e9 comum. Aumentar as chances de safras comercializ\u00e1veis no n\u00edvel de campo deve incluir sa\u00fade do solo, tratamentos de sementes e programas de prote\u00e7\u00e3o de plantas baseados em pesticidas convencionais e biol\u00f3gicos.<\/p>\n<p>O avan\u00e7o na descoberta cient\u00edfica das mol\u00e9culas e micr\u00f3bios do amanh\u00e3, ao mesmo tempo em que promove o campo da agronomia, deve continuar a prosperar.
