Quando os vegetais s\u00e3o exclu\u00eddos, a cultura mais valiosa depois dos vegetais em cada pa\u00eds \u00e9 o milho na \u00c1frica do Sul, o girassol na Turquia, o arroz no Egito e na Tanz\u00e2nia e o arroz na Nig\u00e9ria.<\/p>\n<p>H\u00e1 potencial para desenvolvimento de valor na regi\u00e3o por meio do aumento da utiliza\u00e7\u00e3o de variedades vendidas comercialmente e da ado\u00e7\u00e3o de culturas geneticamente modificadas (GM). Atualmente, a \u00c1frica do Sul \u00e9 o principal impulsionador do cultivo de GM na regi\u00e3o, com mais de 90% da \u00e1rea plantada de GM. Outros pa\u00edses na regi\u00e3o, como Sud\u00e3o, Eti\u00f3pia, Qu\u00eania e Nig\u00e9ria, tamb\u00e9m come\u00e7aram a cultivar culturas GM nos \u00faltimos anos.<\/p>\n<p>Na \u00c1frica do Sul, o milho GM \u00e9 a cultura mais amplamente cultivada, com taxas de ado\u00e7\u00e3o que excedem 90% desde 2019. Soja e algod\u00e3o GM tamb\u00e9m s\u00e3o cultivados no pa\u00eds. Eti\u00f3pia e Qu\u00eania tamb\u00e9m come\u00e7aram a cultivar algod\u00e3o GM, mas as taxas de ado\u00e7\u00e3o ainda s\u00e3o relativamente baixas. A Nig\u00e9ria est\u00e1 na fase de testes para algod\u00e3o GM e feij\u00e3o-caupi.<\/p>\n<p>No geral, a regi\u00e3o da \u00c1frica e Oriente M\u00e9dio est\u00e1 se aproximando do limite do valor derivado de sua \u00e1rea de sementes GM.
