Ele estava acompanhado pelo Ministro da Agricultura de Victoria, Bob Cameron, que observou que, em m\u00e9dia, a geada destr\u00f3i quase US$ 1,3 bilh\u00e3o em planta\u00e7\u00f5es de trigo e cevada somente em Victoria e na Austr\u00e1lia do Sul.<\/p>\n<p>O gene deriva de uma esp\u00e9cie de gram\u00ednea que possui a capacidade de inibir o crescimento de cristais de gelo como mecanismo de toler\u00e2ncia ao congelamento. \u00c9 uma das duas \u00fanicas plantas vasculares e a \u00fanica esp\u00e9cie de gram\u00ednea na pen\u00ednsula Ant\u00e1rtica.
