Os pesquisadores descobriram que tanto o arroz com redu\u00e7\u00f5es moderadas quanto fortes na densidade estom\u00e1tica conservaram mais \u00e1gua do que o arroz selvagem. Testes posteriores usando v\u00e1rios graus de \u00e1gua descobriram que a edi\u00e7\u00e3o gen\u00e9tica n\u00e3o afetou o rendimento da cultura em ambientes de estufa.<\/p>\n<p>At\u00e9 agora, os testes no arroz geneticamente editado foram realizados em estufas de laborat\u00f3rio. A equipe est\u00e1 cultivando tr\u00eas linhas de arroz \u2014 tipo selvagem, densidade estom\u00e1tica moderadamente reduzida e densidade estom\u00e1tica muito reduzida \u2014 em condi\u00e7\u00f5es de boa irriga\u00e7\u00e3o e seca. O local do teste est\u00e1 testando ainda mais as diferen\u00e7as na efici\u00eancia do uso da \u00e1gua, regula\u00e7\u00e3o t\u00e9rmica, rendimento e outras propriedades agron\u00f4micas entre as variedades.<\/p>\n<p>Como muitas tecnologias de edi\u00e7\u00e3o gen\u00e9tica s\u00e3o relativamente novas, esta pesquisa tamb\u00e9m servir\u00e1 como um caso de teste para mover culturas geneticamente editadas de crescimento limitado em um ambiente de laborat\u00f3rio para terras agr\u00edcolas maiores. Como parte deste projeto, o CIAT ajudar\u00e1 a integrar a caracter\u00edstica editada no arroz mais amplamente usado pelos produtores.
