Sara Farrona da <a href=\"https:\/\/www.universityofgalway.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Universidade de Galway.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A EpiSeedLink emprega duas estrat\u00e9gias principais: compreender os mecanismos moleculares e epigen\u00e9ticos por tr\u00e1s da germina\u00e7\u00e3o e do vigor das sementes para desenvolver culturas resistentes \u00e0 seca; e desenvolver agentes de prepara\u00e7\u00e3o molecular de sementes a partir de recursos marinhos e terrestres renov\u00e1veis, como algas marinhas, para melhorar o desempenho das sementes em condi\u00e7\u00f5es de seca.<\/p>\n<p>Essas abordagens ser\u00e3o testadas em condi\u00e7\u00f5es de laborat\u00f3rio e de campo usando plantas modelo como Arabidopsis \u2013 uma planta com flores da fam\u00edlia da mostarda; bem como tomate e colza \u2013 duas das principais culturas cultivadas na Europa.<\/p>\n<p>A Dra. Sara Farrona, Chefe do Plant Development Epigenetics Laboratory da School of Biological and Chemical Sciences, College of Science and Engineering, University of Galway, disse: &quot;Nosso objetivo \u00e9 pesquisar o potencial de tecnologias que podem ajudar os agricultores a cultivar safras sob condi\u00e7\u00f5es de estresse relacionadas ao clima, como a seca. Como o desenvolvimento de pr\u00e1ticas agr\u00edcolas sustent\u00e1veis \u00e9 essencial no combate \u00e0s mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas, o objetivo do EpiSeedLink \u00e9 contribuir para esse desafio, impulsionando o progresso em dire\u00e7\u00e3o a um mundo mais sustent\u00e1vel e avan\u00e7ando tanto o conhecimento fundamental quanto as solu\u00e7\u00f5es pr\u00e1ticas na agricultura.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA pesquisa est\u00e1 investigando mecanismos epigen\u00e9ticos \u2013 essencialmente como a fun\u00e7\u00e3o celular pode ser alterada. Processos epigen\u00e9ticos em biologia s\u00e3o an\u00e1logos ao software de um computador. Enquanto genomas se assemelham ao hardware que executa c\u00e9lulas, mudan\u00e7as epigen\u00e9ticas se assemelham a softwares que gerenciam quando genes s\u00e3o ligados ou desligados. Tais mudan\u00e7as podem ocorrer naturalmente em resposta a fatores ambientais, ligando c\u00e9lulas a seus arredores, mas sem alterar sequ\u00eancias de DNA de culturas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEste projeto busca aproveitar esses processos naturais para fornecer novas tecnologias sustent\u00e1veis aos produtores agr\u00edcolas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>O projeto EpiSeedLink envolve pesquisas em tr\u00eas \u00e1reas principais:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Germina\u00e7\u00e3o de sementes:<\/strong> Entender como os fatores epigen\u00e9ticos influenciam o desenvolvimento de uma nova planta, conhecido como transi\u00e7\u00e3o semente-mudas.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Adapta\u00e7\u00e3o ao estresse:<\/strong> Estudando como as plantas respondem ao estresse da seca.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Prepara\u00e7\u00e3o de sementes:<\/strong> Desenvolver tecnologias para melhorar a toler\u00e2ncia \u00e0 seca usando agentes de prepara\u00e7\u00e3o molecular de sementes de recursos marinhos e terrestres renov\u00e1veis, como algas marinhas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Como parte do cons\u00f3rcio EpiSeedLink, a Universidade de Galway e a BioAtlantis est\u00e3o hospedando estudantes de doutorado que est\u00e3o sendo treinados como a pr\u00f3xima gera\u00e7\u00e3o de cientistas de plantas em pesquisas inovadoras em epigen\u00e9tica vegetal, oferecendo novas maneiras de melhorar a produtividade das colheitas e a resili\u00eancia ao estresse.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Sujeeth Neerakkal, Chefe de Pesquisa de Plantas, BioAtlantis Ltd, disse: \u201cEpiSeedLink \u00e9 um projeto de pesquisa de ponta focado na modula\u00e7\u00e3o do c\u00f3digo epigen\u00e9tico em planta\u00e7\u00f5es, usando novos agentes de Priming Molecular.
