De acordo com Nathan Childs, analista s\u00eanior do mercado de arroz, Servi\u00e7o de Pesquisa Econ\u00f4mica do USDA<\/a>, falando na USA Rice Outlook Conference em Little Rock, Arkansas, EUA, o mundo produziu uma safra recorde de arroz pelo quarto ano consecutivo. Childs atribuiu o aumento \u00e0 \u00e1rea maior, em vez de maiores rendimentos.<\/p>\n

China, \u00cdndia, Bangladesh, Indon\u00e9sia, \u00c1frica Subsaariana, Tail\u00e2ndia e Camboja expandiram a \u00e1rea plantada nesta temporada e todos est\u00e3o projetados para colher safras maiores. Como resultado de um ciclone que atingiu por volta de 1\u00ba de maio, espera-se que a safra da Birm\u00e2nia seja menor, assim como a do Ir\u00e3 e do Iraque devido \u00e0 seca, e na UE devido \u00e0 \u00e1gua insuficiente.<\/p>\n

Embora uma safra menor seja esperada para o Vietn\u00e3, ainda \u00e9 esperado que ele impulsione as exporta\u00e7\u00f5es em 2009, junto com a China, Egito e Paquist\u00e3o. \u201cAs exporta\u00e7\u00f5es do Paquist\u00e3o ser\u00e3o um recorde por uma grande margem\u201d, previu Childs. \u201cEspera-se que Bangladesh exporte 4 milh\u00f5es de toneladas em 2009. Isso \u00e9 um pouco abaixo do Vietn\u00e3. As exporta\u00e7\u00f5es da \u00cdndia ca\u00edram por causa de uma proibi\u00e7\u00e3o de exporta\u00e7\u00f5es. Descrevendo as previs\u00f5es do importador, Childs disse: \u201cA \u00c1frica Subsaariana, o Sudeste Asi\u00e1tico e o Hemisf\u00e9rio Ocidental levar\u00e3o mais arroz. A Indon\u00e9sia, que j\u00e1 foi o maior importador de arroz do mundo, reduziu as importa\u00e7\u00f5es substancialmente nos \u00faltimos anos, mas esperamos que eles aumentem as importa\u00e7\u00f5es um pouco em 2009.
