Bayer Opens Canadian Canola Research Facility

Bayer CropScience has inaugurated a new innovation center northeast of Saskatoon, Canada, the company announced via press release. The new state-of-the-art complex will be dedicated to the research, development, and breeding of canola (rapeseed). In addition to the existing 225 hectare breeding station, the complex covers 5,000 square meters of laboratories and phytotron rooms, including around 750 square meters of air-purity controlled greenhouse space.

Approximately 40 employees, from plant breeders to molecular scientists and plant pathologists, will work together at the facility. The more than US$14 million investment is aimed at advancing Bayer CropScience’s InVigor hybrid canola.
