Cotton Production Facilities Leaving Germany

Low-cost competition is forcing textile and apparel production facilities to relocate outside of Germany to countries in Eastern Europe and Asia. Cotton spinning and weaving companies have also followed this relocation trend, leading to a decline in domestic use, reports the US Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agriculture Service (USDA-FAS). The only remaining profitable textile sectors in the country are niche markets and technical use products.

Due to the country’s climate, no cotton is grown within Germany. The country depends entirely on imports to feed its textile and apparel industries.
