ADM, Deere, and Monsanto Collaborate on Corn
The creation of additional products from unused crop byproducts would allow farmers to maximize the value derived from each acre, said the three companies, as well as potentially help lower food prices by using a non-food source for ethanol. Typically, stover is left in the field to help reduce erosion and provide valuable soil nutrients as it rots, so researchers are trying to determine what trade-offs would be involved if stover was removed to be used for other products.
Fundinig for the stover project has not been disclosed.
