Upgrade of Non-selective herbicides segments

Yonon’s Glufosinate and L-Glufosinate Planning

Established in 1988, YONON has been one of leading agrochemical manufacturers in China, with 4 manufacturing sites located in East and North-West provinces of China and a strong portfolio covering Herbicides, Insecticides and Fungicides.

With the development in past 32 years, Yonon has been focusing on Non-selective herbicides including Glufosinate, Diquat and Paraquat, especially Glufosinate & L-Glufosinate as their core products. As the first generic manufacturer of Glufosinate in the world, Yonon built up the first production facility in Zhejiang Province 15 years ago and then keep upgrading the technology to improve the quality and reduce the production cost.

When more and more countries have decided to ban Paraquat, and Glyphosate resistance became one of the significant problems in fields, no one is doubting the growth of Glufosinate in future. However, Yonon has realized that one of the key reasons will limit the application of Glufosinate worldwide is the cost of Glufosinate is relatively higher than other non-selective herbicides. Therefore, Yonon has been dedicated to invest for decreasing the application cost of Glufosinate for global farmers and has achieved significant progress recently.

1) Vertical integrated production site.

As Yonon introduced, they have invested around USD 100 million to construct a full vertical integrated production site in Ningxia Province, north-west of China, which is expected to be in operation in 2021. Utilizing the local advantages of low-cost energy in the new site, the vertical-integration of Yonon’s Glufosinate and L-Glufosinate will strengthen their sustainable supply and cost efficiency.

2) Revolutionary progress on L-Glufosinate

Yonon started the development of L-Glufosinate since 2009 cooperating with partners, and successfully built up the production facility in 2015. However, the promotion of L-Glufosinate in China was limited because of the high cost at that time.

With continuous investment in R&D, Yonon has made revolutionary progress on L-Glufosinate technology in 2019. Following the approval of ICAMA for L-Glufosinate, Yonon successfully launched the L-Glufosinate in China with the brand name “Jinbaisu” in 2020, which was well accepted by farmers because of super performance and good cost efficiency.

3) Full-services for global partners to commercialize L-Glufosinate

With the vertical-integrated production site and successful commercialization of L-Glufosinate in China, Yonon expected the demand of L-Glufosinate will grow in oversea markets as well. Therefore, to support potential oversea partners, Yonon has been investing in IP (intelligence property), registrations (ICAMA and oversea registrations), Formulation development (new recipe and field efficacy) etc. to provide full-services for oversea partners to promote L-Glufosinate.

Yonon believes the global Non-selective herbicides segments will be upgraded by Glufosinate and L-Glufosinate in future, and more importantly, farmers will eventually be benefitted from the upgrade.
