Cheminova Introduces New Herbicide

Cheminova Inc. has announced a new herbicide active ingredient pethoxamid that will be instrumental in helping growers manage herbicide-resistant weeds including Palmer amaranth, waterhemp and other important broadleaf and annual grass weeds.

Classified as a Group 15 herbicide, pethoxamid is a novel selective chloroacetamide that works by inhibiting the germination of target weeds. It can be applied preemergence or postemergence. In the U.S. and Canada, major crops slated for its use include canola, corn, cotton, rice, soybean and sunflower.

“Cheminova is developing pethoxamid as a solo product and as an ingredient to be combined with a number of complementary herbicides. We will submit pethoxamid for registration in the U.S. and Canada this year, with expected commercialization in late 2017,” said Mike Krull, Cheminova business development director.
