New Rice Fungicide Fights Blight in Pakistan

Tokyo– Arysta LifeScience will introduce Kasumin 2SL, a kasugamycin-based fungicide developed by Hokko Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., Japan, at the end of this season’s rice crop in Pakistan.

Kasumin shows strong curative and preventive effect at low dosage against both fungal and bacterial diseases in crops such as rice, tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, cabbage, onions and beans, according to an Arysta company statement.

“With the introduction of Kasumin, farmers have a way to protect their crops from yield-robbing diseases, and can benefit from higher yields than in previous years,” said Mr. Amir Majeed, Business Development Manager, Arysta LifeScience Pakistan in a statement.

The product is initially being targeted for rice. Rice is one of the most important crops in Pakistan, grown on large areas and contributing significantly to the foreign exchange earnings for the country. Blast and bacterial leaf blight are the two serious diseases of rice crop in Pakistan that result in yield and quality losses every year.

Arysta LifeScience Pakistan is aiming to reach 20% market share of the fungicide market of rice within the next three years, according to the company statement. The company also plans to expand the use of Kasumin for other potential rotational crops such as vegetables, potatoes and citrus to protect against bacterial diseases.
