Bayer CropScience Acquires US Biotech Company
Monheim, Germany-based Bayer CropScience has entered into an agreement to purchase Athenix Corp., a Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, US-based independent biotechnology company with an extensive herbicide tolerance and insect control trait development platform focused on corn and soybeans. The acquisition is subject to premerger notification to US authorities, and the final purchase price has not yet been disclosed.
The acquisition complements Bayer CropScience’s BioScience business by extending its research and development presence in North America, and will boost the company’s trait platform for core crops such as oilseeds, cotton, rice and wheat.
