Monsanto Asks Argentine Farmers to Sign Seed Contracts

Monsanto is asking small-scale farmers in Argentina to sign contracts promising royalties for Roundup Ready 2 seeds, according to Reuters.

The previous generation of the Roundup Ready soy variety seeds were not patented in the country, and farmers have been able to use seeds from their own fields without paying the company. Farmers who account for about a third of all soy output have already signed the contracts, according to the article.
