Monsanto Continues to Approve Residual Partners for Roundup Ready Program

Valent USA announced that Cobra and Phoenix Herbicides will join Valor, Valor XLT, Gangster and Select Max Herbicides in the Roundup Ready PLUS soybean incentives. Cobra and Phoenix are the first post-emergence broadleaf products from Valent to be included in the program, according to the company.

“The longtime commitment between Valent and Monsanto has been critical to resistance management and growers’ overall weed strategy programs,” Trey Soud, Valent brand manager, said in a statement. “Pre-residual herbicides – such as Valor, Valor XLT and Gangster – serve as the core of resistance management; however, the addition of Cobra and Phoenix now allows growers to earn an incentive for using post-emerge broadleaf herbicides.”

MANA Crop Protection also announced that three herbicides in its cotton portfolio – Cotoran, Cotton Pro and Direx 4L – will be included for grower incentives under the 2012 Roundup Ready PLUS Weed Management Solutions program.

Used alone or in combination with other herbicides for season-long weed control, these products are recommended under the Roundup Ready PLUS program to combat Palmer amaranth (pigweed) and other weed species known for resistance issues specific to glyphosate, MANA said.

“Over the past two years, we’ve witnessed increased demand for pre-emergence residual herbicides. Not just to prevent early weed competition, but to address weeds showing signs or confirmed for glyphosate resistance,” Dave Downing, herbicide product leader, MANA Crop Protection, said in a statement.
