Biopesticides To Grow
Global biopesticide sales are expected to exceed US $1 billion by 2010, according to a report published by Business Communications Co. of Norwalk, Connecticut, US.
The market share for biopesticide products in expected to nearly double in the same span, from the currently estimated 2.5% to 4.2%. Some of that growth is forecast to occur at the expense of synthetic pesticides, which are projected to decline by 1.5% per year.
The primary drivers for the global growth in biopesticide usage are increased integrated pest management (IPM) systems, increased concern over health risks posed by conventional chemicals, and increased environmental awareness.
The biopesticides industry also is improving in efficacy, and in some cases dropping in price, due to more efficient production, transportation, and storage technologies, the report adds.
