El USDA se ha unido a naciones de todo el mundo para dar inicio al Año Internacional de los Suelos, un esfuerzo por resaltar la importancia del suelo en la vida cotidiana.
“We are excited to be working with the United Nations to help raise awareness and promote the importance of conservation of our soil resources,” said Under Secretary for Natural Resources and Environment Robert Bonnie. “USDA is embracing this unique opportunity to tell the world about the importance of soil conservation and how we’ve worked with private landowners since 1935 to protect and improve this priceless natural resource.”
The UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) spearheaded the global International Year of Soils campaign within the framework of the Alianza Global por el Suelo. El año de la conciencia tiene como objetivo aumentar la comprensión de la importancia del suelo para la seguridad alimentaria y las funciones esenciales de los ecosistemas. Los suelos juegan un papel crucial en la seguridad alimentaria, la erradicación del hambre, la adaptación al cambio climático, la reducción de la pobreza y el desarrollo sostenible.
