US, Brazil Sign Biofuels Pact

On Friday, March 9, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Brazil Foreign Minister Celso Amorim signed an agreement to share ethanol technology. The two countries together produce 70% of the world’s ethanol, and nearly eight in 10 cars in Brazil run on ethanol made from sugar cane. US President Bush and Brazilian President Silva want to expand ethanol production in Central America and the Caribbean and set industry standards to help ethanol become an internationally traded commodity.
