Bayer’s Ricestar and Sunrice Launched In Sri Lanka

Rice is a staple food in Sri Lanka, and production could be boosted by two new rice herbicides introduced by Hayleys Agro Products Limited (HAPL). HAPL’s products range from crop protection chemicals to vegetable seeds, fertilizer, and ag equipment, and are available in over 90% of agricultural outlets in the country.

Both new herbicides were developed by Bayer CropScience Germany. Ricestar contains the breakthrough active ingredient fenoxaprop-p-ethyl to provide maximum protection against specific weed types, with minimal environmental impact, and is designed to work alongside Sunrice, which contains the active ingredient ethoxysulfuron. The two herbicides are designed to together provide maximum efficacy to help improve yields by combating weeds that choke rice paddies. During the launch event, Ricestar and Sunrise received more than US $367,000 of orders.

At the product launch in Colombo, Upali Gangoda, Chief Executive Officer of HAPL, said research by Bayer had helped to make crop protection products environmentally friendly by improving their efficacy, thus reducing the quantities needed.
