India and Southeast Asia: Get Insider Advice for 2026 Strategic Planning
The AgriBusiness Global ASIA Virtual Seminar hosted expert presenters and panelists to focus on key market trends and opportunities in the specific countries of India, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines on 29 October 2025. Starting off the ASIA seminar with a Take Ten, a 10-minute question and answer interview, Dr. Jin Huang, Deputy Dean of Biotechnology Research Institute for Chengdu Newsun Crop Science, explored new developments of plant health products in China and Southeast Asian countries.
Following the plant health discussion, Renee Targos, Group Editor of the AgriBusiness Group, moderated a discussion on India and Southeast Asia with panelists KS Thyagarajan, Head of Corporate Affairs & Sustainability for PI Industries Ltd.; Robert Upton, Business Director-Agricultural Solutions for Southeast Asia for BASF; and Rajvir Singh Rathi, Director of Agriculture Affairs and Policy for Bayer CropScience.
The discussion covered topics of how agricultural input companies are responding with innovation to support smallholder farmers in the wake of climate change and banned crop protection chemicals. All panelists discussed how governments are trending toward tightening up regulations on biostimulants and crop protection chemicals, and how companies should be responding to these challenges and opportunities.
After the panel discussion, David Li, Vice President of SPM Biosciences, gave a presentation on the China’s Impact on Regional and Global Agrochemical Strategies, covering the latest market trends and its ripple effect on India and Southeast Asia countries. Li also highlighted upcoming events to consider for 2026 strategic planning.
Derek Oliphant, Partner at AgbioInvestor, gave a deep-dive crop protection analysis for India, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines, exploring the trends and opportunities for each region for the upcoming year.
Along the lines of strategy, Dr. Piyatida Pukclai, Regional Sales & Regulatory Policy Manager (Asia-Pacific) for knoell, explored regulatory changes for India and Southeast Asia countries, focusing on India’s new biostimulant rules and the specifics of Southeast Asia governments tightening regulations.
