India To Stock Up On Fertilizers
After reviewing fertilizer stocks in Madurai and India’s southern districts, says Chennai Online News, Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers M.K. Azhagiri directed agriculture department officals to store adequate stocks of fertilizers, which will be distributed through Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies like the previous year. Azhagiri directed all primary agriculture co-operative societies to start stocking fertilizers from now on. He also asked Agriculture Department officials to take initiatives to provide enough fertilizers to meet the needs of the farmers of the southern districts to avoid a fertilizer scarcity, like that which occured last year.
Orders were given to the officers in the agriculture department to avail enough supply of needed fertilizers to the farmers on time. Azhagiri said that an additional allocation of 2,500 tonnes of diammonium phosphate and 1,250 tonnes of complex fertilzer are being rushed to Madurai District, with the stock due to arrive within two days. He also said that officials should not tolerate hoarding of fertilizer or adulterating it, but should instead ensure uninterrupted supply of fertilizer at government rates to the farmers. The department should also take strict action against those who are involved in hoarding and black-marketing of fertilizers, said Azhagiri, who reminded officials to be vigilant in keeping enough stock of needed fertilizers in these societies from now on.
