Origin AgriTech Acqires Shandong Kunfeng Biochemical

SHANDONG, China — Origin Agritech Limited, a hybrid and genetically-modified (GM) crop seeds supplier, has acquired an 80% ownership stake in agrochemical producer Shandong Kunfeng Biochemical Limited, reports Business Wire. Shandong Kunfeng produces glyphosate and paraquat, among other agricultural chemicals.

The company’s agchemical products are compatible with Origin’s GM crop seed products. Origin expects cross-selling potential through its existing nationwide distributor network in China.

Origin will invest the proceeds from the divestiture of its minority stake in cotton seed company Biocentury Transgene Technology Co. Ltd. in the agrochemical industry and continues to seek opportunites.
