China: Arable Land Dwindling

Arable land in China continues to fall each year due to industrialization and urbanization. However, notes the US Dept. of Agriculture’s Foreign Agriculture Service (USDA-FAS), the pace of the decrease is expected to slow down because of increased government control and planning measures outlined in the 2007 Communiqué on Land Resources in China.

In the document, the central government will attempt to protect the remaining 120 million Ha of arable land in the country.
