European Commission Backs Biotech Crops

The European Commission has announced its plans to endorse genetically modified (GM) crops in the EU, asking for looser regulations and increased financial and political support. The Commission’s mid-term review of the EU’s Biotech Strategy acknowledged the EU’s majority opposition to GM crops; however, the European Commission’s decision to support biotechnology applications could have the effect of bringing about greater acceptance.
