Global Agriculture And Food Chain Indexes Available
Index provider MSCI Barra has launched the MSCI Agriculture and Food Chain indexes, according to structuredproductsonline.com. Designed to measure the performance of ag and food industry components, the equity-based indexes these industry elements from production to distribution.
The indexes, designed to underlie financial instruments such as ETFs and structured products, are part of the thematic and strategy indexes family. They are constructed by aggregating selected Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS) sub-industries comprising agricultural products, fertilizers and agricultural chemicals, packaged foods and meats, and food distributors.
Market capitalization-weighted indexes are available for both developed and emerging markets including global, Europe, the US and Asia-ex Japan. Sector-capped weighted indexes – which apply one-third of the index weight at each quarterly index review to both the agricultural products and the fertilizers and agricultural chemicals sub-industries with the remaining third split between the food distributors and packaged foods & meats sub-industries – are also available.
