China-Sri Lanka Green Agriculture Partnership Deepens at International Green Plant Protection Innovation Conference in Colombo

The 6th International Green Plant Protection Innovation Conference in Colombo, Sri Lanka, attracted more than 700 participants from 15 countries and more than 90 institutions.

From January 19 to 20, 2025, the 6th International Green Plant Protection Innovation Conference and the 2026 Sri Lanka International Agrochemical Expo (ACE Sri Lanka) were successfully held at the Bandaranaike International Conference Hall in Colombo, Sri Lanka. These events, hosted by the China Crop Protection Industry Association (CCPIA), brought together global experts to explore sustainable agricultural solutions, further strengthening Sino-Sri Lankan cooperation in the agricultural and agrochemical sectors.

With the theme “Green Plant Protection Innovation Driving Agricultural Sustainable Development,” the conference attracted over 700 participants from 15 countries and more than 90 institutions. Seven academicians were present, underscoring the high academic level of the event, which facilitated meaningful exchanges on green agricultural technologies.

In her congratulatory message, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Hon. Amarasuriya expressed appreciation for the long-standing agricultural ties between Sri Lanka and China, highlighting the potential for this conference to enhance bilateral cooperation. Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Qi Zhenhong, noted the critical role of green agriculture in addressing global challenges like climate change and food security. He emphasized that the conference provides an excellent platform for fostering deeper cooperation between the two nations.

One of the most engaging parts of the conference was the series of high-level presentations, which highlighted the practical and academic efforts being made to address global agricultural challenges.

Kang’s expertise in sustainable crop protection offers valuable lessons for Sri Lanka’s agricultural sector as it seeks to improve its own crop resilience.

Additionally, during the China-Sri Lanka Agrochemical Summit, experts from Sri Lanka’s Department of Agriculture shared their experiences in adopting green pesticides, shedding light on how Sri Lanka is leading the way in sustainable pest management solutions. Dr. Huang Jin from Chengdu Newsun Cropscience, a prominent Chinese biological company, also presented innovations in plant-based natural products, emphasizing the shared potential for further collaboration. With both countries rich in plant resources, their partnership in the green agriculture movement has significant promise.

This gathering of minds from around the world marked a new chapter in the deepening agricultural partnership between China and Sri Lanka. The outcomes of both the conference and the expo provide a clear path forward for advancing green technologies and sustainable practices, benefiting not only the two nations but also contributing to the global agricultural community’s efforts in combating climate change and ensuring food security.
