Agtrinsic has announced the introduction of its Disease Intelligence Engine in South Asia, with an initial focus on making advanced crop disease technology accessible to smallholder farmers.

Agtrinsic is working with a team based in the region to develop and bring a mobile application to market that reflects local crops, disease threats, farming practices and language needs. The initiative is intended to place practical disease intelligence directly into the hands of farmers who often have limited access to advanced agronomic tools and early-warning systems.

Smallholder farmers are a vital part of regional agriculture and global food security. They produce food for their families, communities and broader supply chains while often facing crop disease with fewer technical, financial and advisory resources than larger farming operations.

“Some of the farmers who can benefit most from earlier disease information have historically had the least access to it,” said Scott Plato, Director, Agronomy Innovation and Technology. “Our goal is to change that by making this technology practical, affordable and accessible to the smallholder farmer.”

The South Asia initiative will build on Agtrinsic’s Disease Intelligence Engine, an artificial intelligence platform designed to provide a continuously updated view of crop disease risk as conditions change. The technology is intended to help farmers recognize developing threats earlier, prioritize scouting and make more informed crop protection decisions.

The platform represents a different approach from traditional disease forecasting systems that rely heavily on static environmental thresholds, historical patterns, or visible symptoms. Agtrinsic’s technology is designed to provide evolving disease intelligence that can be delivered through a mobile experience suited to local production conditions.

“We are not simply taking a product developed for large-scale agriculture and introducing it into a new market,” Plato said. “We are working with people in the region to organically build an experience around the needs of local farmers, crops and agricultural communities.”

Agtrinsic expects the mobile application to support locally important crops and diseases while providing alerts, field-level guidance and practical recommendations through an accessible digital platform. The company is also exploring collaboration with agricultural retailers, processors, exporters, cooperatives, spray service providers and other organizations that support smallholder farming communities.

The regional team will assist with product development, localization, field testing, farmer engagement and commercial introduction. Agtrinsic believes this local partnership model will be critical to ensuring the technology is relevant, trusted and usable in everyday farming decisions.

“Protecting the productivity of farms is not just a local agricultural issue,” said Matt Free, Vice President of Agronomy. “It is directly connected to food availability, rural livelihoods and the resilience of the global food system. When these farmers have better tools to protect their crops, the benefits extend far beyond a region.”

The South Asia launch is part of Agtrinsic’s broader effort to make advanced disease intelligence available across diverse crops, farming systems and geographies. The technology is the subject of pending U.S. and international patent applications.
