According to China’s National Bureau of Statistic, China produced 3.74 million tons of pesticide in 2014, reflecting growth of just 1.4% compared with the previous year, reports Fang Lin of ChemLinked, a division Reach24H Consulting Group. The production of herbicide increased by 2.8% to some 1.8 million tons, while production of insecticide and fungicide shrunk by 4.8% and 1.2% to 561,000 tons and 230,000 tons respectively.
It was also revealed by customs that the volume of pesticide exports reached 1.16 million tons, a modest growth of 6%, while the value maintained double digital growth of 10.7% reaching a value of $4.15 billion.
The export volume of herbicides increased by 6.5% to some 806,000 tons and the value increased by 8.1% to $2.57 million. The export volume of insecticide increased by 6.2% to some 239,000 tons and the value increased by 17.4% to $1.07 million. The volume and value of fungicide grew by 4.4% and 10.5% respectively. The importation of pesticide has also reached to $700 million for the first time because the MNCs have increasingly launched its new product in recent years.
Some statistics on China’s top 100 pesticide companies in 2014 are noteworthy:
- The total sales of the top 100 were $17.36 billion (106.33 billion CNY), an increase of 9% on the previous year of $15.99 billion (97.92 billion CNY);
- In 2014, 36 companies (31 in 2013) reached sales of more than $163.3 million (1 billion CNY);
- The qualifying criteria for the ranking list required a minimum of $57.16 billion (350 million CNY) per annum turnover, reflecting growth of 17% compared with 2013.
