GM Cassava To Field Test In Africa

In what Professor Richard Sayre, from Ohio State University in Columbus, US, called “the most ambitious plant genetic engineering project ever attempted,” cassava – a staple crop in poor parts of the world – has been genetically modified to provide a full day’s worth of vitamins, minerals, and protein in a single meal, as well as resist viruses. The GM cassava is scheduled for field testing in at least two African countries by 2010.
