Monsanto To Buy Delta and Pine Land
15 August 2006 D&PL is a leader in the cotton seed industry and currently operates the largest and longest running private cotton seed breeding program in the world. Joining with Monsanto immediately makes the agrochemical and trait powerhouse a major player in the seed market.
The road may have bumps, however. There is no guarantee the deal will be approved by antitrust authorities at the US Department of Justice. To facilitate the process, Monsanto has committed to divest the US assets of its Stoneville cottonseed business if required to close the transaction.
