Qiaoji Group: A Reputation For Quality

Qiaoji Group, which includes factories Jiangsu Qiaoji Biochem Co., Ltd. and Nantong Qiaoji Pharchem Co., Ltd., as well as member companies Zhuhai Qiaoji Overseas Trade Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Qiaoji International Co., Ltd. — the company’s new headquarters in Shanghai — also does toll manufacturing for multinational companies, including the daughter companies of Bayer, BASF, and Syngenta. Qiaoji Group’s annual turnover from pesticide sales in 2007 was US $38 million overseas, with domestic turnover in China of almost US $2.2 million.

Quality First

Qiaoji Group has strived for quality since the beginning. At the group’s very start, Qiaoji only had a foreign trade company without its own factory, so company Chairman Stephen Cao had to join in China’s heavy price war, which almost all Chinese pesticide suppliers participated in at that time. This made initial business very difficult for Qiaoji.

Cao then began to consider how to step out in a different way, and began to invest in the establishment of his own pesticide factories in order to control the quality. High level quality and inviting former senior managers from first-class multinational companies to become pesticide marketing representatives of Qiaoji Group in different regional and national markets set the company apart. From there, Qiaoji Group developed the philosophy and effective strategy of the multinationals, and began seriously carrying out its clear strategy of “really high quality, reasonable Chinese prices and professional service, including strong registration support.”

At the same time, Qiaoji Group paid attention to the selection of good partners in overseas markets — companies that also focus on good brands and reputation. Cao’s quality philosophy is that crop science must serve crop life, and crop life must serve human life. “What we work is essentially for human life,” says Cao, “so we must stick to the quality philosophy of ‘from crop science quality to crop life quality to human life quality.’”

Still Growing

“Our new office (Shanghai Qiaoji International Co., Ltd.) in Shanghai City will open in early 2009,” says Cao. Nantong Qiaoji Pharchem Co., Ltd. is also currently under construction and will go online in 2010 or so. Its key products will be fipronil, chlorfenapyr, bispyribac sodium, cyhalofop-butyl, pretilachlor, azoxystrobin, cyproconazole, difenoconazole, epoxiconazole, propiconazole, tebuconazole, and tridemorph — products Qiaoji expects to release in the next year or two. As of September 2008, Qiaoji Group has 122 registrations for pesticides outside of China.

Currently, Qiaoji has 160 employees at the factory, 15 employees in research and development, 20 employees at its export company, and 33 former senior managers resigned with big multinational companies to act as the pesticide marketing representatives of Qiaoji Group in overseas markets.
