Chemtura Divests Non-Core Business Units

In early November, the company signed a letter of intent to sell its EPDM Elastomers and Rubber Chemicals businesses, which have been struggling for some time, as well as its worldwide Flexzone anti-ozonants business. A few days prior, Chemtura sold its majority stake in plastics processing machinery maker Davis-Standard to its partner, Hamilton Robinson.

The move will help free Chemtura from debt and allow the company to focus on its primary businesses. Chemtura’s Crop Protection business, one of these core focus areas, struggled this year due to poor sales and debt in a difficult Latin American market.
