Clariant Repositions Crop Protection Business

Muttenz, Switzerland – Clariant, a manufacturer of adjuvants and other specialty chemicals, said this week it is repositioning its crop protection business to expand new products and services, and will boost R&D investments.

The Swiss company said it hired Peter Baur to head its Competence Center Crop Protection in Frankfurt. Baur previously led the bioavailability optimization group at Bayer CropScience, where his work focused on transporting substances into leaves more effectively.

“Clariant already offers well performing ‘green’ products including adjuvants, solvents and dispersing agents, and we are looking to expand this aspect of our portfolio,” Baur said in a statement. “We will build up a unique portfolio of guide formulations and profiling services geared to enhancing the efficiency of our customers, products, reduce their water and energy consumption, and help them comply with regulatory requirements in their markets,” he added.

Clariant Crop Protection said it will strengthen its operational team and offer product profiling and regulatory guidance tailored to regional requirements. Its Competence Center in Frankfurt will support its regional teams.

“We regard expanded formulation support as being very important,” Baur said. “Active ingredients from the last decades often have properties that challenge the formulator to develop a stable formulation without freezing activity. It`s all about balancing robust activity and stability with user-friendliness of the product.”
