Environmental Stewardship In Morocco

WILLOUGHBY, Ohio, US — Every year, agrochemical suppliers and distributors around the globe are honored by the Environmental Respect Awards, sponsored by DuPont Crop Protection, Farm Chemicals International, and our sister publication, CropLife magazine. Winners are chosen based on environmental care in areas of security, risk management, product handling and use, worker safety, and education and outreach to their communities.

US winners come from many states across the country; from these state winners, regional winners are chosen, and the best example of environmental stewardship is then selected out of these as the US national winner. At the same time, Ambassadors of Respect are chosen through the World of Respect program from four different world regions: Asia Pacific, Middle East/Africa, Brazil and Mexico/Central America. All US and international winners receive a trip to Washington, DC, where they receive their awards at a special ceremony on Capitol Hill. The winners — retailers and distributors from around the globe — have the opportunity to share ideas and practices with one another that will help them improve their businesses through environmental stewardship and the safe use of agricultural products, as well as promote the news of environmentally respectful agricultural practices.

Each year, in order to connect US Environmental Respect and international World of Respect winners and provide an opportunity to learn about agriculture and stewardship initiatives in other parts of the world, the US winner is sent to visit the facility of one of the World of Respect Ambassadors. The 2009 US National Winner, Wabash Valley Service of Browns, Illinois, traveled in March 2010 to visit Agricultural Materials Company (Agrimatco) in Casablanca, Morocco. Along with the tour of the Agrimatco facility in Casablanca and its experimental station in Agadir, Wabash Valley’s Mike Wilson and members of his team, along with Al Strohmaier, group publisher for Farm Chemicals International and CropLife magazine, toured Moroccan olive, citrus and tomato producers. The 2010 World Tour can be followed online, along with past World Tours dating back to 2005.
