Syngenta Primed for a Merger – Bloomberg

Syngenta may be open to a merger, whether as an acquirer or as a target, according to a report by news wire Bloomberg, which cited Syngenta shareholder Wintergreen Advisers LLC.

Earlier this year, reports surfaced that a deal between Syngenta and Monsanto fizzled out. But Syngenta is still open to an acquisition, as its shares have dropped 9.5% in the last year amid slowing revenue growth, and deal could help the company improve its prospects, Bloomberg said.

Citing comments made by Dow Chief Executive Andrew Liveris, Syngenta may be open to a takeover of Dow AgroSciences, Bloomberg said. Liveris had previously suggested Dow is open to divesting its agchem unit.

A representative for Basel, Switzerland-based Syngenta said the company doesn’t comment on speculation. Representatives for Midland, Michigan-based Dow declined to comment.
