Syngenta to Launch New Active Ingredient in U.S.

Syngenta said it plans to launch a new active ingredient in a new SDHI fungicide called Solatenol.

The fungicide will be available under four products for use on wheat, corn, cucurbit and fruiting vegetables, grapes, peanuts, pome fruit, potatoes and soybeans. Field trials will begin this summer.

“As growers continue to encounter profit-robbing foliar diseases and soil pathogens in their crops, the need grows for an effective fungicide with broad-spectrum, long-lasting disease control,” said Allison Tally, technical product lead, Syngenta. “Solatenol fungicide binds tightly to the plant’s wax layer and slowly penetrates the tissue, providing the disease control that growers need.”

The Solatenol fungicide active ingredient will also provide:

Corn, Soybeans and Wheat

In corn, soybeans and wheat, Syngenta will introduce a new fungicide with three active ingredients – Solatenol fungicide, azoxystrobin and propiconazole. This product will be marketed as Trivapro fungicide upon registration. Trivapro will provide improved broad-spectrum control of common rust, Southern rust and gray leaf spot in corn, as well as leaf rust, stripe rust and stem rust in wheat. Trivapro exhibits preventative and curative disease control and crop enhancement benefits for improved yield potential. It will be the first fungicide to deliver three modes of action for resistance management in these crops, according to Syngenta.

Apples, Grapes and Pears

Upon registration, Solatenol fungicide will be marketed as Aprovia fungicide in apples, grapes and pears. Aprovia will provide control of apple scab, powdery mildew, fly speck and sooty blotch. Aprovia exhibits the highest intrinsic activity on apple scab versus current standards. It mixes well in the tank with other products and will be used at low rates.

Vegetables

In fruiting vegetables and cucurbits, Solatenol fungicide and difenoconazole will be marketed as Aprovia Top fungicide upon registration. Aprovia Top controls early blight, powdery mildew and gummy stem blight, and tank mixes well with other products.

Peanuts

In combination with azoxystrobin, Solatenol fungicide will be marketed in peanuts as Elatus fungicide. It provides peanuts with protection against yield-robbing diseases such as white mold, limb rot and leaf spot. Elatus will offer application flexibility and no skips in leaf spot control.

Potatoes

Elatus fungicide will also be available for use in potatoes. It will contain two active ingredients – Solatenol fungicide and azoxystrobin – providing growers with a fungicide that demonstrates no cross-resistance to strobilurin or triazole fungicides. Elatus exhibits excellent Rhizoctonia control and produces increased yield potential.
