BASF Opens New Crop Protection Office in Zambia

LUSAKA, Zambia- BASF Crop Protection division reported that a new office in Lusaka, Zambia is now open.

As the fourth African office opened by BASF this year, the company decided to begin operations in Zambia just in time for the country’s corn and soybean season, said the company. BASF plans to triple Crop Protection sales on the continent in the next three years, according to the press release.

“Like many African countries, Zambia has huge untapped potential in agriculture. But no two countries are alike,” said Gabor Mehn, director of BASF Crop Protection business in Africa. “To assist local farmers with sustainable solutions we need to better understand their needs, which is why we are investing in local offices and staff.”

In the first three quarters of 2010, sales of BASF Crop Protection in Africa and the Middle East increased 30%, with focus countries such as Kenya, the Ivory Coast and Mali all making major contributions, according to the company.
