Nigeria: Grains Strong

Corn production leads Nigeria’s above-average grain harvest, which appears strong in nearly all parts of the country. With harvesting almost complete, corn production has increased by 7% to about 7.5 million tons, due largely to the attractive price for corn and uncertain price for cotton at the onset of the planting season.

Additionally, weather was favorable and the input supply was adequate under the Presidential initiative to double corn production within two years. As a result, the price of corn has fallen to a four-year low.
