South African Floods Affect Farmers

Farmers in South Africa are also experience unusually rainy weather. Floods have ravaged the country since mid-December as the country has witnessed more than double the normal amount of rain for the month, according to Businessweek.

Analysts and officials are still trying to estimate the full extent of the damage done to the country’s corn and grape crops. Some believe there will be no long-term effects on South African farming, according to News24.

Forecasters are predicting steady rainfall nearly every day for the next couple weeks, increasing the likelihood that there will be significant crop damage. Floods have claimed 40 lives to date.
