U.S. Ag Retail and Consolidation: 12 Biggest Deals in the Last 5 Years

No other factor impacts our CropLife 100 list of the largest U.S. ag retailers quite like consolidation. Whether it’s mega mergers such as three cooperatives joining forces to create one top seven agronomy business, or a major acquisition like the perennial number one retailer purchasing the 42nd biggest retailer in the country, consolidation is a constant force that influences the rankings each year.

And just four months into 2021, we’ve already have witnessed two major moves. In early March we saw the merger of two Wisconsin-based cooperatives, Landmark Services Cooperative (No. 39) and Countryside Cooperative. The two chose each other as merger partners because “they share many similarities and merging into a single cooperative was a natural fit,” according to a press release.

In February, another merger was finalized between Indiana-based ag cooperatives Co-Alliance, LLP (No. 16) and Harvest Land Cooperative (No. 46).
