Brandix India Apparel City Set For 2008

According to a company release, BAIC is based on a "Fibre-to-Store" concept, making the city a “fully integrated one-stop-shop” with capabilities in spinning, fabric, accessory and apparel manufacturing, complete with on-site customs and recreational facilities.

In October, Ocean India, backed by fabric company Fountain Set Holdings of Hong Kong broke ground to set up the largest knit fabric mill in the region.

In 2007, it has already attracted Pioneer Elastics of Hong Kong; Mauritius-based apparel company CMT; the U.K.’s Quantum Clothing; along with several service providers and Indian telecommunication company BSNL to support operations in the City.

Brandix Apparel India, the Indian manufacturing arm of Sri Lanka-based Brandix, began commercial production early this year at a temporary location in the Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone. Since its launch, it has significantly increased its local workforce significantly and has begun to export its apparel to elite customers including the U.S.-based Victoria’s Secret and Hanes.
